Sara Shamel

Miss Sara Elizabeth Compton Shamel, 19, of Winston-Salem, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018, in Boca Raton, Florida. She was born September 16, 1998, in Kaliningrad, Russia. Sara was the adopted daughter of Paul and Malinda Walker Shamel. She arrived in Winston-Salem on August 20, 1999. Sara attended local schools and was a member of Home Moravian Church, where she served as a diener for the Christmas Lovefeast services. She touched many lives during her life and had an ability to make friends with everyone with her effervescent personality and infectious laughter. Sara was a natural dancer and loved ballet and contra dancing. She loved horses, horseback riding, and won awards doing so. Sara was an animal lover and had several pets that she loved. As a talented seamstress and crocheter, she planned a career in fashion. She was a Star Wars fan and once dressed up as Princess Leia for Halloween. One of her joys was listening to music by Ariana Grande. Preceding her in death are her mother, Malinda Walker, her grandparents, Howard and Betty Walker and June Shamel, and a uncle, Mark Walker. Surviving are her father, Paul Shamel (Dianna), two brothers, Benjamin and Samuel Shamel, a grandfather, Richard Shamel, two uncles, Steven Shamel (Tammy) and Carl Shamel (Melanie), four cousins, Aubrey, Diane, Danielle, and Dillon, and many other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be conducted in her honor 10AM Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Home Moravian Church, officiated by the Rev. Ginny Tobiassen and the Rev. Andrew Heil. Interment will follow at God's Acre. The family will receive friends 6-8PM Friday, September 7, 2018, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
