Sarah Jane Sloan Doby

Mrs. Sarah Jane Sloan Doby, 85, of Winston-Salem, was called home by her Lord and Savior on February 20, 2024, to be in His eternal love. Her smile and loving personality will be missed by all who knew her. She was born on February 10, 1939, to Lester H. and Mary F. Sloan in the Hanestown neighborhood in Winston-Salem, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Johnny, James, Ray, Mary Ann; and her husband, Jim. She is survived by daughters Dana Muto (Melissa James) and Lisa (Ken) Gamble; grandchildren whom she adored, Daniel (Liliane) Muto, Katherine Goodnight, Sara, and Ben Gamble (Mary Anne); great-grandsons, Jack Goodnight and Berrien Muto; and Conrad Whittington, father of her children. Also surviving is her brother, Jack (Glenda) Sloan. In addition, Sarah leaves behind her brother-in-law, Tommy Watkins; her sisters-in-law, Shelby and Dianne Sloan; her stepson, Randy Doby; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Sarah also leaves behind Glenda Luck, and her many other friends at Country Village Apartments.

Sarah retired from Hanesbrands after 40 years of faithful service. After retirement, Sarah volunteered at Forsyth Medical Center for as long as her health permitted. She served as clerk/secretary at Davie Baptist Church for over 13 years. Following the death of her husband, she moved her membership to Freeman Street Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be held at Freeman Street Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Bob Whitaker. The family will receive friends between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24. The service will begin at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mission Fund at Freeman Street Baptist Church, or to the charity of your choice.
