Selma Emerson Carlin

Mrs. Selma Emerson Carlin, 97, of King, NC, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Priddy Manor Assisted Living. She was born and raised on a farm in LaGrange, NC, to the late William Clarence Emerson and Effie Pool Emerson. Selma had many roles in public service until marrying her companion, James, in 1957.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in passing by her loving husband, James William Carlin, Jr.; son, William “Al” Carlin, a grandson, Brandon Bodsford, and her brother, William Preston Emerson. Selma is survived by her two children, Jimmy Carlin (Cindy) of King, NC, and Jane Bodsford (Keith) of Yadkinville, NC; her grandchildren, Erin Shore (Matt) and Drew Carlin; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Selma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Kinston, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, PO Box 325, Dobson, NC 27017.
