Selma Jean Lewellyn Putnam ,88, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2025.
Selma was born on November 13, 1936, in Winston-Salem, the only child of Woodrow Wilson Lewellyn and Stacy Wood Lewellyn. She attended Gray High School and remained a proud resident of her hometown throughout her life.
For 35 years, Selma was a devoted member of Oaklawn Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for several years and faithfully served on many committees. Her deep faith and kindness touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Selma dedicated herself first and foremost to her family as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a full-time homemaker yet also worked part-time for several local businesses including the Forsyth County Board of Elections, Sara Lee Corporation, Wachovia Bank, and McLean Trucking.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 72 years, David Putnam; three daughters, Kelly Clodfelter (Eric), Terry Putnam, and Marty Mayes (Thomas); three grandsons, Luke, Matt, and Chris; one granddaughter, Lindsay; one great-granddaughter Skylar and one great-grandson, Jonathan.
Selma will be remembered for her warm heart, steadfast faith, and unwavering love for her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Chaplain Mary Beth Henderson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
