Sheila Ann Robertson Doss

Sheila Ann Robertson Doss, 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, July 19, 2026, at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington after a long and courageous battle with numerous health challenges.

Sheila was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose limitless love for her family defined her life. Her family was always her greatest priority, and she gave of herself freely and unconditionally to those she loved.

Known for her warm hospitality, Sheila delighted in opening her home to family and friends for holidays, celebrations and special gatherings. She never met a stranger and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. An accomplished cook and baker, she maintained an extensive recipe collection and was famous among family and friends for her potato salad, chicken salad, homemade fudge, cakes, party mix, peanut butter balls and countless other treats. For many children in Winston-Salem, one of the highlights of being in school with Sheila's daughter was enjoying the homemade goodies she lovingly prepared for classroom parties and holiday celebrations.

Later in life, Sheila shared a special bond with her daughter, Jill, traveling together to explore new cities, states, and culinary experiences. Southern Living magazine served as inspiration for many of their adventures and treasured memories.

Sheila was a constant presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She faithfully attended sporting events, chorus performances, school functions, and milestones, proudly cheering on those she loved. Her grandsons, Wade and John Raines, were the joy of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

A faithful member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, Sheila loved her church family and remained devoted to her faith throughout her life. The friendships and fellowship she found there brought her great comfort and joy.

Born and raised in Winston-Salem, Sheila graduated from Mineral Springs High School in 1960. Her parents, who preceded her in death, were Margaret Wallace Robertson Kiger and Jack Dempsey Robertson. Following graduation, she married Billy T. Wilson and worked at Hanes Hosiery. They divorced, and later she married Wade Allen Doss. Throughout her life she filled many roles, including homemaker, in-home daycare provider, employee of Paragon and Grandview Grocery Stores, and operations staff member at Kilpatrick Stockton Law Firm. When she learned she was going to become a grandmother, she eagerly retired so she could dedicate herself fully to caring for her grandsons.

Her greatest sorrow was the loss of her beloved son, Jeffrey Scott Wilson, who died in an automobile accident at the age of 18. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Wade Allen Doss.

In September 2025, as her illnesses progressed, Sheila moved to Davidson County to live with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandsons after many years of making her home in Winston-Salem.

She is survived by her daughter, Jill Doss-Raines, and son-in-law, Chris Raines of Lexington; her grandsons, Wade Doss Raines and John Russell Raines of Lexington; her brothers, Buddy Kiger, and sister-in-law, Angie, of Winston-Salem and Dale Kiger of Winston-Salem; her sisters, Malinda Brown and Malissa Brown, and husband, Larry Brown, of Winston-Salem; and many beloved extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many physicians, caregivers, and medical professionals who cared for Sheila over the years, especially the staff of Atrium Health Dialysis Center Northside in Winston-Salem and Lexington, whose compassion and dedication meant so much to her and her family. The family is also grateful for the care that the drivers of the Shepherd’s Center provided by transporting her to and from dialysis when she lived in Winston-Salem.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 24, at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 6496 Baux Mountain Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. Rev. Eric Tang will officiate. The family will receive friends at noon, one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, NC.
