Shelva Yates

Mrs. Shelva Walker Yates, 81, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018. She was born in Forsyth County on March 30, 1937 to Robert and Ora Walker. Shelva retired from R.J. Reynolds with 27 years of service in 1987. She enjoyed shopping. Shelva loved spending time at the coast and making pound cakes for the Sea Rat Fishing Team. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and caregiver. She loved life and she especially loved her grandchildren more than anything. She was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving family includes her husband of 60 years, B.G. "Junior" Yates; sons, Michael Yates and wife Chrystal, and Mitchell Yates; grandsons, Walker Yates and Zane Yates and wife Taylor; sister, Jeanette Pilcher and husband Jerry; brother-in-law, Bob Yates and wife Kathy; and nephew, Brian Pilcher and wife Abby. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at Hayworth-Miller Chapel with Rev. Charles Carver officiating. A committal service will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kate B.
