Sherrill Bruce Coggins

WINSTON-SALEM-- Mr. Sherrill Bruce Coggins, 78, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Coggins was born on January 4, 1936 in Forsyth County to Bruce Arrington Coggins and Ruth Shields Coggins. He graduated from Griffith High School. Sherrill retired from Hanes Hosiery after 39 years of service. He was a technician with Hanes and designed machines that made the hosiery. Sherrill had the opportunity to travel the world with his job at Hanes Hosiery including Europe, Puerto Rico, Canada and South America. Preceding Mr. Coggins in death along with his parents were two sisters, Lucy Lewis and Barbara Talley. Mr. Coggins is survived by his wife, Joan Lunsford Coggins of the home; three sons, Perry Coggins (Donna) of Winston-Salem, Dale Coggins (Laura) of Clemmons, NC and Kelly Coggins (Doris) of Westfield, NC; grandchildren, Clinton Coggins (Jenna), Charlie Coggins (Kelly), Emily Quance (Jonathan), Monica Coggins, Christopher Coggins, Justin Coggins, Jennifer Coggins, and Alyssa Coggins; nine great-grandchildren and one sister, Phyllis Thurman of Summerfield, NC. Funeral services for Mr. Coggins will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Terry Rausch officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Forsyth County, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for the compassionate care they showed Sherrill and the family.
