Sherry Wilson Thompson

Sherry Wilson Thompson, age 71, of Tobaccoville, NC, passed away on May 8, 2026. A woman of immense kindness and a selfless spirit, Sherry spent her life making sure those around her were cared for, loved, and heard. Born in Charlotte, NC, on May 29, 1954, to the late Felix and Margaret Wilson, Sherry grew up with a deep appreciation for family. She attended North Forsyth High School and Forsyth Technical Community College before embarking on a long career in clerical work. She lent her talents to several local industries, including PepsiCo and Inmar, where she eventually retired. In her retirement, Sherry found joy in the quiet beauty of her hobbies. She was a gifted artist who loved to draw and create crafts, filling her time with creativity. She had a special affinity for birds, particularly cardinals, which she admired for their beauty and grace. Known affectionately as "Mom" to many more than just her own children, Sherry’s home and heart were always open. She shared an unbreakable bond with her sisters and held her memories of her father especially close to her heart. Beyond her family, she was blessed with many, many friends whom she loved, but she held an especially dear bond with Nancy and Phillip Moser. Sherry is survived by her devoted husband, Jeffrey Thompson; her daughter, Brandy Stobaugh and husband James; her son, Dustin Thompson and husband David; and her cherished grandson, Declan Stobaugh. She also leaves behind her sisters, Sandra Tuthill (Lonnie) and Felice Avery (Keith); her stepsisters, Silvia, Lavon, and Shiela; and her beloved nieces and nephews, Phillip Cherry, Katy Avery, and Teresa Floyd. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Gay Cherry (Charles). A service to celebrate Sherry’s life and the legacy of love she leaves behind will be held on June 6, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Reynolda Church, 2200 Reynolda Road., Winston-Salem, NC 27106. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Sherry’s honor to the American Cancer Society at American Cancer Society/donate.
