Shirley Ann Autry

In Loving Memory of Shirley Ann Autry, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was born on November 29, 1949. She peacefully departed this life on August 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion to her family.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry T. Autry; her parents, Opal McHargue and James McHargue; her sister, Kathy Spach; her cherished granddaughter, Kristin Spainhour; and her beloved sister-in-law, Mitzy McHargue, with whom she shared countless cherished memories.

She is survived by her three loving daughters: Rhonda Spainhour (Daniel), Sharon Porter (Keith), and Robin Reynolds. She is also survived by her two brothers, James McHargue and Michael McHargue (Donna), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her dearly.

Shirley was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren: James Riddle (Amanda), Karrie Reaves (Fred), Kayla Spainhour, Megan Peña (Antonio), Miranda Marchie (Daniel), Marissa Schrock, Madison Porter, and Brandon Porter (Hallie).

She was also blessed with eleven great-grandchildren who brought endless joy to her life: Isaiah, Isaac, Mason, Lillyana, Johnathan, Jayden, Kayden, Hayzel, Lucas, Leo, and baby Lyla.

Shirley was the matriarch of the family and the piece that held everything together. She was more than a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt she was the heart of her family. Her love brought everyone together, and her presence created a sense of comfort, strength, and belonging that will be deeply missed. The memories, traditions, and love she created will continue to live on through every generation of her family.

Shirley had a special love for cats and Dr. Pepper, two of the simple things that brought her joy and were uniquely a part of who she was. Those who knew her will always smile when they think of her favorite things and the little pieces of her personality that made her so special.

Though she is no longer with us in body, her love will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

A graveside service will be held 2PM Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Woodland Cemetery.
