Shirley Miller

Shirley Jean Miller (née Scott), 93, of Kernersville, passed away peacefully at her home on January 7, 2019 and awoke in the presence of her beloved Lord and Savior.

Shirley was born in Piper, KS on September 27, 1925 to the late Walter and Minnie Scott. She studied Home Economics at Kansas State and went on to marry the late George Andrew Miller on May 18, 1948.  She worked for several years at Welch’s Food in North East, Pennsylvania where she worked till she retired. She enjoyed quilting, traveling and was actively involved in church ministries throughout her life. Most recently, she was a member of Glenn View Baptist Church in Kernersville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Miller; two sisters, Gladys Kenton and Ruth Zimmerman; and one brother, Ralph Scott.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sheila (Jeff) Jordan of Asheboro, NC and Debra Scully of Winston-Salem, NC. She was also the loving “Grandmummer” to four grandchildren; Lindsay (Aubin) Reynolds of Seagrove, NC, Eric (Diana) Scully of Alexandria, VA, Chad ( Rachel) Jordon of Raleigh, NC, and Keri ( Nathan) Lawrence of Winter-Springs, FL and six great-grandchildren who will continue her legacy.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel, 141 Smith-Edwards Rd., Kernersville, NC 27284. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be given to Hospice of the Piedmont, whom the family wishes to extend their sincere thanks for their care during Shirley’s transition to Heaven. Gifts may be mailed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
