Shirley T. James passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 13, 2017, ten days after celebrating her 68th birthday. She began her life in Stokes County, the youngest of six children born to Dewey & Ludie Jane Throckmorton. Clemmons became her home when she married Frank in 1972, raising two daughters there before moving to Arcadia. During her early days in the beauty salon, several years working in the dry cleaning business and 25 years in the insurance business, she made many wonderful friends. In her last few years she enjoyed spending time connecting with them on Facebook. She is survived by her children Monica (Nathan) Jones, Marsha (James) Williams, as well as siblings Grady (Frances) Throckmorton and Betty Pennell. Of all her roles in life, no matter how you came to know her, you knew that the most rewarding of all was being a grandmother to Hallie, Owen, Ian, Henry and Will. Per her wishes, a graveside service will be held Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 11:00 am, at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. Her ashes will be placed alongside those of her late husband, Frank, whom she dearly loved and missed. Online condolences may be made to www.hayworth-miller.com. (Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel)
