Shirley Phelps

Shirley Burton Phelps went to be with her Lord peacefully in her sleep and joined her husband of 49 years, Thomas A. Phelps, Jr. on March 21, 2018. She was born on October 27, 1937 in Davie County to Johnnie and Nannie Burton. She was a homemaker, who loved to crochet and work in her garden when she was able. She was a Duke Basketball fan. Mrs. Phelps was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister. Preceding her in death were her parents, step-mother, Eupharzine; brothers, Robin and Herbert Burton; sisters, Ruby Burton, Mildred Holder, and Doris Barnes. Surviving her to cherish her memory are her three children, Phyllis Hundley (Steve), Tommy Phelps (Michelle), and Donna Spurlock (Scott); six granddaughters, Jessica Henning, Rachel and Lauren Phelps, Ashley Welborn, Candy Holland, and Bethany Spurlock; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Abbie Stanley; brothers, Johnnie Burton, Jr., William, Rodney and James Burton. A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with Rev. Danny Hauser officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
