Shirley Sult

Mrs. Shirley Lathey Sult, 79, passed away May 23, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 13, 1939 in Leon, WV to the late John Wesley Lathey and Effie Stephens Lathey. Mrs. Sult was a graduate of Point Pleasant High School in Point Pleasant, WV. She retired from Western Electric after 30 years of service. After retirement, she assisted her husband at Sherwood Flower Shop where she spent many prom seasons making corsages and boutonnieres. She loved her family and friends immensely and helped many of them in various ways throughout her life. Several of them, who had fallen in love with North Carolina, credit her for making it possible for them to move south. She unselfishly donated a kidney to her sister, Barbara, in 1981. Mrs. Sult enjoyed growing beautiful flowers and loved seeing her peonies, calla lilies, and hydrangeas bloom each spring. Her time spent with family and friends by the pool in the summer was among her favorite memories as were fierce cribbage matches played at the dining table. She enjoyed traveling to new places and visiting old favorites like the Outer Banks and Surfside Beach. On Christmas Eve each year, she served her sister Jeri's highly sought-after chicken scaloppini, a tradition many looked forward to after attending the Love Feast at Olivet Moravian Church together. Her winter months were spent cheering on her beloved UNC Tar Heel basketball team and celebrating their many victorious seasons. Mrs. Sult was preceded in death by 21 brothers and sisters, of which she was the last remaining sibling. She is survived by her husband, Larry C. Sult; her son, Wesley and his wife Wendy; her daughter, Tamera; and one granddaughter, Brenley. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends. Mrs. Sult's family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice Carecenter for the loving care given to her in the days leading up to her passing. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00am, June 2, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel with Mr. Alan Malchuk and Mr. Jeff Folk officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:00-11:00am prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
