Shirley Cole White-Lawson

Mrs. Shirley Cole White-Lawson, 77, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Trinity Elms Health and Rehabilitation in Clemmons. She was born in Stokes Co. on September 25, 1938 the daughter of the late Alonzo J. Cole, Sr. and Orice Sheppard Cole. Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church of Stanleyville. She retired as an accountant from Color Carpets in Winston-Salem. As one of her many accomplishments, she was crowned Miss Rural Hall in 1955 and was a star basketball player on the Northwest High School team. Shirley was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend; who will always be remembered for her strong, sweet spirit. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph L. White, III and a brother, Bunny R. Cole. She is survived by her husband; Larry W. Lawson of the home, a daughter; Starr W. Sargent (Randy) of Pfafftown, three sons; Jeffrey L. White (Beth) of Winston-Salem, Gregory B. White (Beth) of Pfafftown and Terry L. Lawson (Kelly) of Rural Hall, 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two sisters; Tootsie Bennett (Bobby) and Dot Patterson (Jimmy) a brother; A.J. Cole, Jr. (Jane) and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Stanleyville with Pastor Eddie Honeycutt and Bro. Don Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Pinnacle. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
