Sidney Austin Fishel, 77, passed away unexpectedly on January 2, 2024.
A graveside service will be held 2 PM Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Parklawn Memorial Park with Pastor Lomax Skinner officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Silas Creek Chapel.
Mr. Fishel was born on July 26, 1946, in Forsyth County, to the late Clyde and Mertie Fishel. He graduated from Griffith High School in 1965 and went on to marry his high school sweetheart Ginger Gayle Smith on September 11, 1965. Sidney retired after 30 years of service from Stroh’s Brewing Company.
Sid and Ginger owned and operated S&G Flower Shop and then went on to running a craft shop. Sidney had a special talent for painting, a love for basketball, and an eye for landscaping and flower arrangements. He was an esteemed landscaper in Emerald Isle, NC, where he lived for the past 22 years. Sid was meticulous and took pride in all his work. A collector of hand carved and painted ducks. He also had an eye for antiques. During his life, he enjoyed coaching and playing basketball. Sidney loved and enjoyed showing Tennessee Walking horses and was a member of the Dixie Boots and Saddle Club.
In addition to his parents, Sid was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ginger Smith Fishel; his son, Greg Fishel; four sisters, Patty Rae, Peggy, Virginia, and Juanita; and two brothers, Roger, and Wilburn Fishel. He is survived by his granddaughter, Sara Fishel of Emerald Isle; and one son, Chris Jenson (Mette) and children of Denmark.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sidney’s name to the charity of your choice.
