*** Visitation update ***
Silas Wayne Porter, 6, passed away at Brenner Children’s Hospital on Thursday, April 23, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on August 7, 2019.
Silas was a kindergartner at Shoals Elementary school, where he loved going to school, learning, and making friends. He was named one of the Student Leaders of the Month in February. Silas loved bunnies, reading books, watching The Andy Griffith Show, and learning all about the solar system, maps, weather and birds. He was talented at identifying birds by sight and sound. Silas was an excellent big brother, son, and friend.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Emily Gordon; father, Micheal Porter; brother, Noah Porter; grandparents, Beverly and James Gordon; great-grandmother, Helen Mize; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be remembered as being brave, funny, smart and kind.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brenner’s for their care to Silas during this time.
A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at King Moravian Church with Rev. Zach Dease and Terry Ford officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday evening at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel, and at the church an hour prior to the service. A private burial will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Brenner Children’s Pediatric Hematology Oncology Clinic, P.O. Box 571021, Winston-Salem, NC, 27157, or to Roc Solid Foundation, www.rocsolidfoundation.org
