Sofie Alexis Zuluaga, 12, passed away at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem on Sunday, May 28, 2017, after a 6 year battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
Sofie was born May 18, 2005 to Juan F. Zuluaga and Cindy Bryson Zuluaga in High Point, NC. She was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem. Sofie attended Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School and was in the Sixth grade. She fought her cancer battle bravely and with incredible courage. She was a shining light to the world and inspiration to all who knew her. She adored animals and wanted to be a zoologist when she grew up. Sofie volunteered at the Forsyth County Humane Society for three years and was their youngest volunteer. Sofie was wise beyond her years; an old soul that could brighten the darkest hour. She loved God and her family above all else. She was an amazing little sister to Madison and an incredible example and big sister to her little brother Lucas. They both adored her and will miss her terribly. Sofie was sweet beyond measure and always considerate of others. Sofie believed in living life with passion and enjoying every day. Among her many interests, Sofie loved to spend time with family, travel, and cook. She was incredibly mature, always polite, and NEVER complained of her physical battle. We would like for her to be remembered for her strong spirit, courage and happiness.
Sofie was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Martha N. Zuluaga and maternal grandmother, Regena N. Lynch.
Surviving are her loving parents, Cindy Bryson Zuluaga and Juan F. Zuluaga and her step-parents Erika Chois Zuluaga and Dwain Sides; her siblings Madison Camille Smith (19) and Lucas Elias Zuluaga (3); and numerous adoring family members, friends, and pets.
A memorial service to celebrate Sofie's life will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 2, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Chaplain Aaron Eaton officiating. Everyone is welcome. There will not be a visitation following the service.
