Sonya Gaither Mabe

Sonya Denise Gaither Mabe, 64, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2026. She was born on March 19, 1962, to the late Joan Steading. Sonya will be remembered for the immense care and passion she held for helping those around her. She was selfless, and spent many years taking care of her mother, as well as anyone who needed a helping hand. Sonya created a close bond with her pets, particularly her beloved dogs. In her free time, Sonya enjoyed crafting and could make just about anything. She was a one-of-a-kind DIY-er and an expert shopper, who could always find the best deals no matter where she went. More than anything, she loved her family. Her two sons and her four grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She will be missed immensely by those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her mother, Sonya is preceded in death by her brother, Roger Gaither.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Dustin Mabe (Michelle) and Ryan Mabe (Courtney); her four grandchildren, Carolyn, Evelyn, Greyson, and Ryder; five siblings, Byron Gaither (Terry), Darrell Gaither (Chris), Kenny Gaither (Tammy), Dawn Steading, and Todd Steading; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

A memorial service will take place at 6:00 PM on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Rob Decker officiating. A visitation will immediately follow the service at the funeral home.
