Stephen Charles Burke

It is with profound grief that we announce the death of Steve Burke. He was 65 years old. Steve was born in New York City and grew up in northern New Jersey. He graduated from Glen Ridge High School in 1979. He went on to attend Elon College which is where he fell in love with North Carolina and Beverly, his wife of 38 years, who survives him. He graduated with a degree in History.

Steve was a gifted athlete and loved all things sports. He was proud of his time on the high school football team and winning the state championship. While at Elon, he was a member of the Lacrosse Club. He loved being part of a team and enjoyed riding in the Tour to Tanglewood bike ride to raise funds for MS research. He participated in this ride for fifteen years in a row, several years also included riding in the Bike MS Historic New Bern. Steve was an avid camper and loved to hike. He especially loved the Appalachian trail and Grayson Highlands State Park.

Steve loved to vacation at the beach; Pawleys Island held a special place in his heart. He would wake up before the sun to sit and fish off the shore. He was naturally gifted in so many ways. Steve worked for Piedmont Airlines/USAir and Timco in the early years of his career, eventually retiring from Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse after almost 26 years. Steve attended Christ Church in Glen Ridge where he was a member of the men and boys’ choir. He had recently become a member of St Mary's Episcopal Church in High Point.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marion Burke. He is survived by his beloved wife Beverly, sisters Allison Bryk and Kristina Pilloni (John). Steve is also survived by Beverly's sisters and brother, as well as extended family and many close friends, who all loved him deeply.

A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in High Point. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Steve's memory to St. Mary's Episcopal Church at 108 W. Farris Ave., High Point, NC 27262; or The Parkinson's Foundation (The Parkinson's Foundation). Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
