Stephen Whicker

Stephen David Whicker, 70, died peacefully on December 28, 2018 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Whicker was born in Forsyth County, NC on February 10, 1948 to Ila Mae Myers Whicker and William Jasper (Jack) Whicker. He graduated from East Forsyth High School in 1967 and was employed by RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company for 25 years before retiring due to his disability.  Mr. Whicker was married to Nancy Lee Spainhour Whicker for 41 years. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2018. Mr. Whicker was a member of the Walkertown Fire Department, and was a lifelong member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. Because of their disabilities, he and his wife Nancy were not able to attend church over the past few years, but they remained faithful by supporting and mailing cards to college students and missionaries. Mr. Whicker was an avid reader and a huge fan of NASCAR racing. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sister Betty Kiger; and his brother-in-law, Bobby Kiger. Mr. Whicker is survived by two brothers, Bob (Bonnie) Whicker and Bill (Marlene) Whicker; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Gospel Light Baptist Church, with Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 1:45 PM at the church prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the service at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. A special thanks to Mr. Whicker’s physician of 20 years, Dr. Betsy English, the staff and residents of Trinity Glen Nursing center and the wonderful staff of Trellis Supportive Care.
