STEVE HOLLAND COE It is with much sadness the family announces the passing of our beloved Steve Holland Coe of Mount Airy, NC. Holland was the son of Arvil Steve Coe and Verna Louise Deese Coe. He was born February 19, 1932 in Mount Airy, Surry County, NC and returned to the spirit world and the loving arms of his parents and our Savior, Jesus Christ on January 29, 2014 at the age of 81. Holland enjoyed his childhood growing up in Mount Airy with fond memories often mentioned of playing with friends: Granville Sydnor, the Cox boys, the Browne boys, the Cobles, and many others and his life-long best buddy, Lee Roy Childress. He graduated with the last class to finish in the old Mount Airy High School building in 1951. Two days later, he voluntarily entered the United States Air Force and faithfully served his country for four years as an airplane mechanic. Knowledge and experience gained there served him well as he entered the employment of Piedmont Airlines on July 5, 1956, later teaching at Piedmont Aerospace Institute and Piedmont Airlines at the T.H. Davis Training Center, where he taught pilots and mechanics on all Piedmont aircraft; but specialized in the 737. At retirement from US Airways, after the Piedmont, US Airways merger, he was over the training division of the 737. On March 30, 1958 he wed Betty Ruth Roberts Coe who survives. They became the parents of four children; fourteen grandchildren, two grandsons-in-law, and two great-grandchildren, who also survive. Children are Arvil Steve Coe II and wife, Melanie Godfrey Coe of Gastonia, NC; David Mark Coe and Eric Todd Coe of Winston-Salem; Stephne Hope Coe Brown and husband, Wesley G. Brown of Germanton, NC. Grandchildren are Natashia Ann Coe, Steve Holland Coe II of Charlotte, NC; Brittney Ammorette Coe Varuska and husband, Christian Blaize Varuska and their children, Blaize and Talia of Parma, Idaho; Tiffany Faye Coe Rollins and husband, Steven Rollins of East Carolina University; Joshua Ryan Coe; and Stephanie Nicole Coe both of Salt Lake Business College, Salt Lake City, UT; Lauren Noelle Coe and Steven Isaac Coe of Walnut Cove, NC; Ryan Nicholas Coe, Campbell University; Zachary Alexander Coe of Rural Hall, NC; Sterling Henry Fisk and friend Morgan Hundley, Winston-Salem, NC; Hope Lindsey Fisk and friend James Upright, NC State University; Sage Aleise Brown, Germanton, NC; Nathaniel Tyler Coe, Winston-Salem, NC; Jeremy Hall of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Jean Coe Needham and her family of Greensboro, NC; several nieces and nephews; and two brothers-in-law, C. Wade Roberts and wife, Mary Lou Roberts of Saint Petersburg, FL; James ""Jim"" H. Roberts and wife, Glenna Daniels of Pilot Mountain, NC. Steve and Betty have a host of friends with some they love like family, John and Marilyn Cox and their children, Kevin, David, Josie, and Steven. David and Robin Culler; Hector and Minerva Ortiz and their children, Alan, Ana, Belyn, and Alvin; also the Warren and Franci Davis family and their children, Brandon, Matthew, and Miss Emma. Steve and Betty joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and faithfully served for over 50 years. Steve held positions of Ward Statistical Clerk, Ward Financial Clerk, Stake Missionary, First Counselor to Bishop Calvin Koontz, Bishop of Winston-Salem First Ward, Stake High Counselor, Melchizedek Priesthood Leader of Pilot Mountain Ward, Branch President of Dobson Branch, Regional Employment Representative, Ward Mission Leader, and other callings too numerous to mention. He was greatly admired and respected by all who knew him for his love and devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ. Steve and Betty enjoyed cooking and having family and friends over for meals before illness prevented it. Their favorite thing was hitting a dance floor and Steve hitting a golf ball. The family would like to especially thank care providers: Dr. Peter Jung and Pam Mills of Novant Health Mountainview Medical, Dr. Mark Lyerly, the staff of Novant Health Whitaker Rehab, the staff of Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, and especially the staff of Golden Living Center in Mount Airy for their devotion and loving care during the almost three years of Steve's illness. Betty would like to give a special thanks to Freddie Hiatt and the gang at the Dairy Center for their love and support during this time of stress. Family and friends will gather at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 305 Bethania-Rural Hall Road, Rural Hall, NC 27045 at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014 for a short service officiated by Bishop Raymond Riska before going to Oakdale Cemetery for interment. Flowers will be appreciated as well as memorials to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or the charity of donor's choice.
