Steve Manuel Hinson

Mr. Steve Manuel “Hondo” Hinson, 72, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Silas Creek Rehabilitation Center.

Steve was born on September 2, 1953, in Forsyth County, North Carolina, to the late Manuel Bernard Hinson and Faye Lucille Teague Hinson.

Throughout his life, Steve was an avid sportsman and hunter whose competitive spirit carried him to gymnasiums, golf courses, shooting ranges, and ball fields across North Carolina and the Southeast. He graduated from West Forsyth High School in 1971, where he lettered in football, wrestling, and baseball. It was his skill on the baseball diamond that ultimately earned him a college athletic scholarship, leading him to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College.

After college, Steve’s drive to compete never faded. Over the next four decades, he won numerous titles and tournaments playing competitive softball with teams such as the Lewisville Masters. More than his own accomplishments, however, Steve cherished sharing his love of sports with his children and grandchildren. He coached numerous youth baseball, softball, and basketball teams for North Forsyth Little League and the North Forsyth Basketball Association, leaving a lasting impact on many young athletes.

Those left to cherish his memory include his two sons, Matthew Ryan (Courtney) Hinson and Steven Daniel Hinson; his two daughters, Joy Kristen Hinson and Leslie Magan Hinson; his four grandchildren, Chelsea Nicole Hinson, Caleb Anthony Thompson, Coy Dean Hinson, and Hunter Wayne Collins; and his sister, Melinda “Mindy” Hinson Gunter.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
