Mr. Steven Wesley Mendenhall, 43, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 19, 2024. He was born in Forsyth County to Gary Donald and Brenda Loggins Mendenhall on May 8, 1980.
Steven was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. He graduated from North Davidson Senior High School in 1999 and attended UTI in Texas for two years, learning to become an auto mechanic. He also went to school for several months in Pennsylvania for extra mechanic training.
Steven worked for Forsyth County General Services at the county garage for 18 years. He was a hardworking man that also liked to hunt and fish. He also loved going to the mountains, traveling, and just being outside, as well as helping his uncle with projects in the workshop making bird and dog houses. Steven was an Eagle Scout with Troop 207, and also coached soccer between the years of 2022-2024. He attended Willing Vessels Christian Center in King, NC, and enjoyed volunteering at church events. Steven, along with his son, Weston, and his brother, Tim, enjoyed spending time together at Thunderbird Ice Hockey games and at other sporting events. Steven also enjoyed baking cakes, especially his delicious homemade chocolate cakes, which earned him the title of the “cake man.”
He was preceded in death by his father, Gary D. Mendenhall; and his grandparents, Thad and Gwen Loggins and Pete and Bernice Mendenhall.
Those left to cherish Steven’s memory include his son, Weston, the love of his life; his mother, Brenda Mendenhall; brother, Tim Mendenhall; and numerous special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A funeral service will be held for Steven on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 3:00PM, at New Mount Vernon United Methodist Church with Pastor Garry Adkins and Rev. Craig Toth officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends between the hours of 6:00PM and 8:00PM, Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or to Midway Athletic Association Soccer Program, PO Box 390, Welcome, NC 27374.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to Steven’s doctors and medical staff on the 9th floor of Forsyth Medical Center, and to the staff of Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for their love and care given to him throughout his illness.
