Mr. Steven Ray Vernon, 74, a resident of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, May 8, 2026, at his residence. He was born in Forsyth County on December 12, 1951, to the late Jack and Mary Vernon.
Steven retired after 35 years of dedicated service with RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. He was an active member of Pinedale Christian Church in Winston-Salem for many years. A man of strong faith, Steven enjoyed reading his Bible often.
He also enjoyed the one-mile walks he and his wife, Penny, took every day, trains, embroidery, painting, and taking it easy while sitting on the porch. Steven proudly served his country in the United States Army.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half-brother.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of forty-eight years, Penny Goins Vernon of the home; brothers-in-law, Ray Goins (Pam) and Richard Goins (Linda); sister-in-law, Shelby Gregory; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Matthew Sink officiating.
The family will greet friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
