Susan Elizabeth Elliott Hammon, 75, passed away peacefully at home in Winston Salem, NC on October 11, 2018. She was surrounded by lots of love and family after battling a six-month illness. She is survived by her husband, Ritz Ray; sons Ian, Dudley and Daniel; grandsons, Gabriel and Logan. Born in Houston, TX, to Card and Jane Elliott on January 21, 1943. Susan spent her summers in her beloved Glenwood Spring, CO riding horses and soaking in the mountain air. She is remembered for her enduring spirit, immense strength, and loving mother and wife. She was an incredibly talented professional sculptor, a passion spanning 29 years. Later in life, she focused on painting and created amazingly realistic pieces for friends and family. Her crowning achievement is a bas-relief installation on the corner of 4th and Main Street in Winston Salem, NC. This piece embodies her loving and peaceful spirit. Susan traveled the world reaching six continents and over twenty-five countries. Her sense of adventure and love of the outdoors endures through her children teaching them the skills necessary for a rich, soulful life. Susan will continue to be forever loved as her family and friends carry her memory onward and live life by her example; to its absolute fullest. A small family service will be held in her honor in West Jefferson, NC and a celebration of her life with her friends will take place at Paul’s Italian Restaurant in Winston Salem, NC on a date to be determined.
