Mrs. Sylvia “Mimi” Ann Speight Hunsucker, 91, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026. She was born on November 26, 1934, in Surry County to the late Claude Speight and Lina Hill Cooper Speight. Sylvia lived a long and meaningful life defined by her love for her family, quiet strength, and enduring kindness. Sylvia had a deep love for flowers and found great joy in working with them, often sharing their beauty with those around her. She was also a devoted member of Rural Hall Moravian Church, where she gave generously of her time and faith, forming lasting friendships and serving her community with grace and dedication. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wesley Hunsucker, with whom she shared over 50 cherished years of marriage, and one sister, Claudine Belton. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Claudia Hunsucker and David Hunsucker (Susan). She is a proud and devoted grandmother to Megan Masencup (Justin), Casey Southern (Jay Frith), Abbey Clayman, Reece Craven (Katie), and Maggie Gappens (Wes). Her legacy continues through her thirteen great-grandchildren, Cooper and Wesley Masencup, Ty and Lane Southern, Hank and Lilah Clayman, Hattie, Charlotte, and Joey Craven, and Max, Mila, Miles, and Maeve Gappens, who brought her immense joy and pride. She is also survived by a sister, Rocelle Hart and a brother George Speight (Maude). Sylvia will be remembered for her warmth, her gentle spirit, and the deep love she had for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday April 12, 2026, at Rural Hall Memorial Park with Rev. Andrew Craver officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals On Wheels of Senior Services, 2895 Shorefair Dr. NW, Winston-Salem, NC 27105 or Women’s Fellowship at Rural Hall Moravian Church, PO Box 487, Rural Hall, NC 27045.
