Sylvia Nell McCarthy Speas

Mrs. Sylvia Nell McCarthy Speas was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 22, 2016. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Neva McCarthy; her husband, Ewell Gwynn Speas and her sister, Lavern Mickey. Surviving is a daughter, Nancy Richardson (Roy); granddaughter, Regina McKee (Stephen); two great-grandchildren, Peyton and Henry McKee; two sisters, Jo Bailey (Max), Melvis McCarthy and Polly Shutt (Don); brother, Hyme McCarthy (Dawnie); sister-in-law, Mary Morphies; also surviving is a niece, Leigh Morphies and many other nieces and nephews. A service will be held Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Peace Haven Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Benfield officiating. Inurnment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may may be made to Liberty Hospice, 1007 Lexington Ave., Thomasville, NC 27360 or the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215. The family would like to thank everyone at The Oaks in Winston-Salem for the excellent care that was given to Mrs. Speas in the last months of her life.
