Teensie “Tina” McMillian Whitaker, 80, of Winston-Salem, entered the more immediate presence of Jesus on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
Born on February 6, 1945, in Patrick County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Maston Junior McMillian and Virgie Bowman McMillian. Tina loved God and her family with her whole heart. Small but fierce, she always knew what she wanted and lived life with quiet determination. She was selfless and beautiful, and her life was truly one that Lived with God and lived with Grace.
Though she was quiet by nature, she had a way of lighting up a room simply by being there. Her love and kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew her, and as her family so lovingly shared, her love was a perfect example of God’s love for us. She had a love for cardinals and treasured the simple, meaningful moments in life.
Tina’s greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, who lovingly called her Nanny. Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband of 60 years, Michael Whitaker; two granddaughters, Amber Weavil (Matt) and Kristen Griffin; three great-grandchildren, Alyssa Thomason, Kaydence Tincher, and Autumn Tincher; one great-great-granddaughter, Kinsley Blackwood; and one sister, Lynne Noah.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in passing by her beloved daughter, Dina Griffin; five brothers; and one sister.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Parklawn Memorial Park, with Pastor Robert Hutchens officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is respectfully serving the Whitaker family.
