Terence "Terry" Dubowick, 67, of Rural Hall, NC passed away on July 24th, 2018 surrounded by his wife and son. Terence was born in 1951 in the Bronx, NY and raised in Fair Lawn, NJ by parents Ted and Sophie Wilochka Dubowick, along with sisters Lynn and Trina. Growing up, Terence spent summers at Lake Hopatcong with family. He could also be found fishing and hunting in the Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York with his friends. He began his own family in 1986 after moving to Oakland, NJ and devoted much of his life to raising his only son, Michael. He was active at Ponds Reformed Church in Oakland throughout the 1990s, teaching Sunday school classes, and helping as a Youth Group leader. Terence began his career in sales at Warner Ford in Garfield, NJ and transitioned into the truck leasing industry where he spent 37 years. He was a member of the Truck Rental and Leasing Association (TRALA) where he served as Director from 1996-2016 and Chairman from 2011-2012. A corporate move brought him and his wife Carol to Rural Hall, NC in 2009. Retiring after 20 years in the leasing division of Mack/Volvo Trucks, Terence loved every minute of living in North Carolina. He and Carol took a number of overseas trips to tour gardens in New Zealand, South Africa, Costa Rica and most recently Scotland. He spent much of his retired life fishing, playing with his Cocker Spaniel, Murphy, and grand-dog Casey, helping Carol in her gardens at home, and working on various car projects with his son. He was a grilling master, loved tomato sandwiches, oysters, and a good martini. A Ford enthusiast at heart, Terence drag raced a class-winning 1969 Mustang as part of the Dubowick-Baldassari race team throughout the 1970s. He continued this passion with his son on his 1994 Mustang Cobra and 1994 F150 Lightning pickup and passed on a lifetime of automotive knowledge and enthusiasm through his final days. Terence is survived by beloved wife Carol (DeVries) and step daughter Pilar, son Michael, sister Lynn Jarosinski (Bill) and nephew Ted, brother-in-law Stephen Shuart and nephews Thor (Mary), Josh (Jen), and Noah. He was preceded in death by loving parents Ted and Sophie and sister Trina. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 11th at 2:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 305 Bethania-Rural Hall Rd, Rural Hall, NC 27045. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM.
