Terry Franklin Gordon

Terry Franklin Gordon, 78, entered the more immediate presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 10, 2025, in Winston-Salem, NC.

Terry was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on August 17, 1946, to Clyde Franklin Gordon and Margaret Ruth Barber Gordon. He was the oldest of four children. When his dad served in the Navy in Guam, he and his mother joined him to live there for 18 months. They had to travel by train and boat for 3 weeks before arriving.

Terry was a Boy Scout at Immanuel Moravian Church, where his father was the Scoutmaster. Terry also served as a Scout Leader after aging out.

As a young man, Terry was a member of the Summer M-Staff at Laurel Ridge Moravian Camp from 1960-1965. He loved his time in the mountains.

Terry graduated from Gray High School in 1964. He was a star football player until he broke his leg on the football field. After high school, Terry served in the Navy for 4 years, based out of Norfolk, Virginia, on the USS Vulcan.

Terry graduated from Gaston Technical College with an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for McLean Trucking for many years, and then later with Nike and Volvo Trucking. After retiring from Volvo, he enjoyed working part-time at Advance Auto Parts, delivering parts. Terry always loved cars. His first vehicle was a 1939 Chevrolet pickup truck. He also had a micro-midget car. He loved working the wrecker for Bradley’s Wrecker service and at the races at Bowman Gray Stadium.

He enjoyed a good golf game with family or friends. After retiring, he worked at the Olde Homeplace Golf Course.

Terry had several faithful friends who met at Kermit’s for lunch every Wednesday, including Harold Day, Tim White, Charles Willard, and others. Terry was a man of few words when texting on his flip phone, but he was a great storyteller when it came to talking about old times, his family and friends.

He was a member of Calvary Moravian Church, where he sang in the choir. He was a dedicated member of the Moravian band, playing trombone in the Easter band at God’s Acre for 60 years.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Zachary Gordon. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Mitzi; daughters, Christie Farley (Tim), Jennifer Johnson (Dustin), and Misty Muller; brothers, Randy Gordon (Vanessa) of Durham, Clifton Gordon (Lydia) of Bostic; and sister, Cynthia Nash (Charles) of Bakersville, and grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Terry loved his family dearly and was always ready to help others.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Salem Moravian Graveyard, officiated by Rev. Chaz Snider.
