Terry Sink

Terry Wayne Sink, 77, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2022 after a period of declining health due to dementia.  He was born in Winston-Salem on December 8, 1944 to the late Grady Ricks and Nancy Rothrock Sink.  Terry was in the first graduating class from East Forsyth High School and attended Elon College.  He spent his first working career as a Customer Service Computer Engineer with IBM.  After retiring, he then went on to a second career with Salem Distributing Company.  Terry grew up attending Friedland Moravian Church and for the last 40 years had been a member at Unity Moravian Church where he was involved in many leadership roles and an integral part of all the Music Ministries including serving as Band Director for 27 years.

Terry’s passion and avocation was music.  He was involved with music groups all over the triad; his primary instruments being tuba and string bass.  He had been a member of the Winston-Salem Community Band since it was founded in 1977.  He also spent many years touring the world with the US Air Old South Dixieland Band which brought him especially enjoyable times and opportunities for travel.  In the 1970’s and 80’s, he played in the pit orchestra for many of the musicals at the Little Theater. He also played in the Society Swing Band and Salem Community Orchestra as well as singing with the Moravian Moramus Chorale.

When not making music, Terry enjoyed many other hobbies; classic cars, motorcycles, tinkering with literally anything that had a motor, wood-working, lavishing love on adopted and foster animals from the Humane Society, and RV camping.

Preceding him in death was a brother, Danny Sink.  Surviving are a daughter, Audrey Hayes (Brian); son Kendall Sink (Heike); step-daughter, Betsy Betsacon (Jeremy); five grandchildren, Kathryn, Madison, Janine, Timmy, and Joseph; also surviving is his sister, Gay Sharon Brothers as well as many extended family members.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Unity Moravian Church with Rev. Scott Rainy, Rev. Tony Hayworth, and Bishop Graham Rights officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:45-1:45 PM prior to the service.  A graveside service will follow at Friedland Moravian Church Graveyard.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Unity Moravian Church Music Ministry, 8300 Concord Church Rd. Lewisville, NC 27023 or to the Alzheimer’s Association-Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Rd., Suite 250 Charlotte, NC 28209.
