The Reverend Phillip Myron Squire

The Reverend Phillip Myron Squire died May 8, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Toledo, OH and spent his childhood in Battle Creek, MI. Rev. Squire was a graduate of Purdue University, Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, and the Shalem Center for Spiritual Direction. He served Lutheran parishes in Nashville, TN; Hickory, NC; Kings Mountain, NC; and Clemmons, NC. He served as an Interim Associate Rector and Pastoral Assistant at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem. He served as chaplain for the Order of St. Luke. He was a member of the Spirituality Committee of the NC Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the campfirmation program at Lutheridge. Phillip was a pastor at heart, blessed with a clear call to ministry. He encouraged others with his ministry of presence, his humor, and his active listening. As a four-time cancer survivor he lived his life fully, filled with passion and joy that reached deeper than the pain. He enjoyed volunteering with Crisis Control Ministry, Habitat for Humanity, and Relay for Life. Phillip was preceded in death by his parents: Myron Guy Squire, Laretta Dressler Squire, and his father-in-law, Eugene D. Roberts. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Anne Squire; his sister and brother-in-law Carol and Jay Virshbo of Natick, MA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dale and Kaki Roberts of Asheville and Phillip's special nephew, Jody Roberts, of Asheville; mother-in-law Doris Roberts of Chattanooga, TN; and aunt Harriette Shepherd of Fort Lauderdale, FL. and exchange student, Nicolas Zimbalos from Argentina. A celebration of Phillip's life will be held 11:00am, Friday, May 11, at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem with The Reverend Steve Rice and The Reverend Doctor Michael Varn officiating. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Lutheridge+Lutherock Ministries, 28 Spruce Dr., Arden, NC 28704 or to Trinity Center P.O.
