Thomas Birchfield

Thomas Eugene Birchfield, 68, of Pilot Mountain died in the evening of Wednesday, May 23rd surrounded by loving friends and family at Woltz Hospice Home. Tom was born and raised in Mohawk, West Virginia. He was a proud Army Veteran and Mason, and retired from the Veterans Administration after more than 30 years of helping other veterans. Tom was a generous, adventurous, motorcycle riding, gun toting, guitar playing, self professed hillbilly who love his dogs and cared for his fellow man. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Everett and his brother, Charles. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; mother, Ethel; sister, Carol and brother, Steve; along with two children, two adult stepchildren, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren and numerous close friends. Instead of traditional services, the family will host a remembrance dinner at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200 , Mt. Airy, NC 27030 in Tom's honor.
