YadkinvilleAfter a courageous battle, Thomas Clarence Brown passed Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born January 6, 1930 to Mattie Wood and David Wallace Brown in Surry County. He spent most of his life in Yadkin County but he had fond memories of his early years in Rockford. He was a graduate of Yadkinville High School. Tom retired in 1990 from Western Electric/Lucent Technologies with 38 years of service. When he was able to be out, he enjoyed seeing his former co-workers. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Larry and Frances Parks; wife, Barbara Livengood Brown; daughter, Susan Brown; sister-in-law, Pattie Shelton. Surviving is his wife, Kay Speas Brown; her children, Harold K. Alley, Jr. and Karen Ranson (Jerry); grandchildren, Brian Ranson (Stephanie), and Ali Ranson; beloved in-laws, Julia Speas Davis, Harold and Lee Livengood, Wayne and Martha Livengood, Lowell and Betty Livengood, and William Shelton; aunt, Grace Cowden; niece, Linda Bee, and several cousins. After being critically ill in April, Tom was able to regain enough strength to make two trips to his favorite beach and several trips to Cody Creek and Rockford during this extra time. Tom was a kind and gentle man. To know ""Turk"" was to love him. A celebration of his life will be 3:00 PM Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel with Rev. Stuart Zimmerman officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 5:30 PM. A private burial will be held on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
