Mr. Thomas Franklin Day, Jr., 94, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016.

Tom was born June 2, 1922 in Forsyth County to Thomas Franklin Day, Sr. and Rebert Ann Tally Day. A graduate of Mineral Springs High School in 1939, he also attended Draughn's Business College. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Tom worked for many years for the U.S. Postal Service and after retirement, stayed busy volunteering at Forsyth Memorial Hospital and driving the handicapped school bus for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, playing golf, gardening and doing yard work. Helping others was one of his gifts. He was a faithful member of Ogburn Memorial United Methodist Church for most of his life, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. In his later years he joined Maple Springs United Methodist Church and particularly enjoyed attending the Maple Springers group. He also was a member of a barbershop singing group. Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Coleen Mickey Day, as well as 2 sisters, and 1 brother.

Tom is survived by his son, Craig Day and wife Beverly; grandchildren, Brian Day and wife Sharon, Traci Ricci and husband Rudy, and Jenni Lucas and husband Brandon; great-grandchildren, Daniel Ricci, David Ricci, and Luke Lucas; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Tom's life will be held Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 2 pm at Maple Springs United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Copley and Rev. Gary Mahathey officiating. The family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Robin Draughn and others who gave support and care for many years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Forsyth County, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27203.
