Thomas "Gerald" Lewis, 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully at his home on December 9, 2025. Born in Forsyth County, the youngest of seven children to the late Mr. David Henry Lewis Sr. and Mrs. Rebecca Southern Lewis, Thomas lived a life shaped by his faith and his family.
Gerald was a faithful member of Winston-Salem First Pentecostal Holiness Church since 1997. His walk with the Lord was the foundation of his life, and his quiet strength was a testimony to the faith he held so dearly. He proudly served in the National Guard from 1958–1963, carrying those values of duty and honor throughout his life.
He loved the simple joys God gave him, woodworking, gardening that always produced the best tomatoes, and the dogs who he always held close. Though he was a man of few words, his kindness and wisdom spoke volumes to the way he lived.
Gerald was married for over 65 years to his devoted wife, Carol Lewis. Together they built a life full of love and faithfulness. To his family, he was “Daddy,” “Pop,” “Grandpa,” and “Gramps,” each name a reflection of the love he gave and received.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in passing by five sisters and one brother.
Those who will forever hold his memory close include his wife, Carol Lewis; his daughter, Cheryl Martin (Jeff); his son, Kevin Lewis; four grandsons, Shawn Lewis (Meghan), Thomas Martin (Emmeline), Sam Martin (Jamie), and Nate Martin (Carolyne); two great-grandchildren, Wilder and Fern; and a host of extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at Winston-Salem First Pentecostal Holiness Church on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., with Pastor Tres’ Ward and Pastor Tim Wolfe officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A private burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Pentecostal Holiness Church, PO Box 5252, Winston-Salem, NC, 27113. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the Lewis family.
