Thomas Duane Payne

Mr. Thomas Duane Payne, 59, passed away unexpectedly on January 25, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Health. He was born March 25, 1956 in Johnson City, New York to the late Merritt Duane Payne and Emma Jean Ball Payne. He was a graduate of Johnson City High School and earned his associate degree in the Army Reserves from Regis College. Mr. Payne was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem where he was the assistant teacher in the Weyandt Bible Fellowship Class and a faithful worker in the Pre-school ministries taking care of the babies. His career spanned from New York to North Carolina in the medical field where he serviced CT scanners and other radiological equipment, most recently at Wake Forest Baptist Health. He loved to vacation at Beaver Lake in Windsor, New York and enjoyed his cabin, spending time at Homeplace Recreational Park in Ararat, North Carolina. He was a kind man who never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone. Mr. Payne is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Middleton Payne; his children, Maureen ""Mo"" Kristina Payne Morais and husband Mario Spencer Morais, Thomas ""Tommy"" Duane Payne II, Stacey R. Martin and Jessica A. Martin; his grandchild, Matteo Payne Morais; his sister, Barbara A. Feather and husband Steve; his mother and father-in-law, Jim and Mary Ruth Middleton; his beloved bulldog, Dilly. He is also survived by many treasured nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Steven Ackley officiating. Inurnment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm until 2:00pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Pre-school Ministries, 5000 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
