Thomas Reece Sechrest

Kernersville - Thomas Reece Sechrest, 82, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Wesley Long Hospital. Thomas was born on July 14, 1934 in Guilford County to Gilmer Sechrest, Sr. and Edith Bull Sechrest. He was a faithful Christian and was a member of Shady Grove Wesleyan Church. Thomas was a veteran of the US Army and loved hunting, fishing and Nascar! He was a man of compassion for others, who never met a stranger. In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ravanda Delores; one brother, Gilmer Sechrest, Jr.; and a sister, Clara S. Boyles. Surviving are his wife of 64-1/2 years, Vera Sechrest of the home; one son, Tim Sechrest (wife, Brenda); one daughter, Tammy Sechrest; two grandchildren, Christy McLemore (husband, Cameron), and Thomas Spencer ""Spud"" Sechrest (fiance', Cynthia Weir); two great grandchildren, Elyse and Kylie McLemore; a brother, David Clinton Sechrest; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Shady Grove Wesleyan Church with Pastors Phil Kirkman and Nate Kingsbury officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
