Thomas Garland Shuler

Thomas Garland Shuler, 95, is now walking the streets of gold with Jesus, and his loving wife, Madeline. He left behind his earthly body on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at his home in Salisbury.
T. Garland Shuler was born in Davie County on August 23, 1921 to Devid Owen Shuler and Mittie Foster Shuler. He worked on the family farm before going into the United States Army, and proudly served his country during WWII. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart Medal and a Bronze Service Star. Upon his return, he went to work building houses, and then as a carpenter for RJ Reynolds, until his retirement in 1983. He truly enjoyed building, and spent his retirement years working side by side with his son, Randy, until his health would no longer allow.
Garland married Madeline Louise White, who he called ‘the most wonderful woman"", on April 5, 1947. He cherished the 54 years they shared, until her death in January of 2001.
He loved Jesus, talking with him daily, and will be remembered by those that knew him as a humble, kind soul who lived his life doing for others. His son will always cherish him as the greatest Dad and best friend one could be blessed. He loved his family, and made it his life's mission to take care of them as instructed by the Lord. He enjoyed spending time with each one of them, especially his son, visiting job sites and construction projects. His love for each member was evident by the ‘sparkle in his eye', and his reason for living.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline White Shuler; sisters Sarah Lucille Shuler Daniels, Doris Shuler Foster; and brother Luther Owen Shuler.
Left to cherish his memories are his only child, Randy Garland Shuler, and wife Lisa of Salisbury; grandson Thomas Shane Shuler, and wife Brandi of Kernersville; granddaughters, Shana Shuler Kramer, and husband Jeremy of Clemmons, and Taylor Alyse Shuler of Salisbury; great grandchildren Naomi and Alyssa Kramer of Clemmons, and Preston Shuler of Kernersville; sister Helen ""Bobbie"" Hemphill of Lexington; aunt Frances Rentz of Mocksville; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to send a special thanks to all those at Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care, for the love, kindness and impeccable care provided by Vickie, Cynthia, Karen, Tammy, as well as many others, over the past 15 months.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Friday, October 14th at Rosemont Baptist Church, 415 West Clemmonsville Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127 with Pastor Mark Reid and Wayne Rentz officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by NC National Guard and VA Honor Guard.
