Mr. Thomas Ross Sprouse, 72, of Winston-Salem, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016. He was born in Staunton, Indiana on June 27, 1944 to Irvin Franklin Sprouse and Bernice Meneely. Captain Sprouse served in the US Marine Corps and was an A-6 carrier pilot, stationed on the USS Coral Sea from 1970-1971. He served 7 years on active duty and 7 years in the reserve. As an alumnus of Rose Polytechnic Institute (Rose-Hulman University), Tom was a pioneer in the development of computer software in the pulp and paper industry and he started several successful businesses in that field. He was a visionary in production and conservation of energy. Tom was an avid pilot, golfer, and fisherman. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many and will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife, Patti Eller Sprouse of the home, a son, Jeff Sprouse of Leadville, Co., three daughters, Megan Kelly of Trappe, Pa., Alexandra Sprouse and Lauren Sprouse both of Winston-Salem, a granddaughter, Nola Kelly, two sisters, Sandra and husband Warren Green of Lee's Summit, Mo., Janice and husband Michael Cox of Brazil, In., two brothers, Randy and wife Donna Sprouse of Thornton, Co., and James and wife Lana Sprouse of Kalamazoo, Mi. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Harmony Grove United Methodist Church in Lewisville with Rev. Greg Freeman officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, September 2, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
