Thomas Lash Transou, 91, passed away on February 27, 2014 at High Point Manor. Thomas was born on August 2, 1922 to Rolla Thomas Transou and Lessie Zimmerman Transou in Forsyth County. He was the oldest male member of Calvary Moravian Church which he attended since childhood. A Veteran of the U.S. Navy, Thomas served on the U.S.S. Saratoga during WWII. He later went on to serve his community as a firefighter until his retirement from the Winston-Salem Fire Dept. Golf was his lifetime passion. Thomas was preceded in death by his loving wife of 38 years, Vernell Jester Transou; son, Randy Transou; and sister, Margaret Taylor. Survivors include his son, Tommy Transou of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter, Jessica Beck and her husband, Michael, their children Lindsey, Leah, and Lucas Beck; grandson, Chad Transou; brothers, James Transou, and Toby Transou and his wife, Emily of N. Myrtle Beach; sister, Mildred Wade; and daughter-in-law, Linda Transou. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Calvary Moravian Church with The Rt. Rev. Lane A. Sapp and Rev. Dallas Prestwood presiding. Interment will follow at Salem Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel on Saturday, March 1, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 P.M.
