Mr. Thurman Vester Johnson, 96, passed away Friday, January 23, 2026, at his home. He was born July 26, 1929, in Mercer County, West Virgina to the late Colin Johnson and Ina Baugess Johnson. In high school, Thurman enjoyed playing basketball. In addition, he enjoyed playing golf. Thurman was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He served his country in the United States Air Force. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Garrett Hans Borgwardt; two brothers, Colin Johnson, Jr. and Wilford Lee Johnson; and sister, Sue Ware. Thurman is survived by his loving wife, Caldona “Dona” Gullion Johnson; two children, Timothy Johnson and Suzanne Hames (Don); five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at 2pm Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Bethany Baptist Church with Dr. Brad Stamey and Rev. Brian Alverson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
