Thurman Theo Spainhour

WINSTON SALEM - Thurman Theo Spainhour, 87, died Thursday, October 13, 2016 at his home. Thurman was born on March 23, 1929 in Stokes County to the late Rome and Devada Victoria Chandler Spainhour. Thurman was a loving husband, dad and paw-paw who will be missed by all who knew him. He loved God, his family and his church. Thurman was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church and attended regularly as long as his health permitted. He liked flying private planes and was one who took joy in taking young people from church flying! Thurman worked at Modern Chevrolet and later for his son at Fleet Supply, where his son said ""His Dad was a good worker and very smart!""

In addition to his parents, Thurman was preceded in death by his precious son, Thurman Junior Spainhour who loved his daddy so much; three brothers, Omar, Herbert and Raymond Spainhour; four sisters, Irene Newsome, Dollie Richardson, Louise Bottoms and Esther Warden.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years and 10 months, Wanda Ashby Spainhour; a granddaughter whom he loved dearly, Deanna Spainhour; a daughter-in-law, Angie Spainhour; two step grandchildren, Kevin Beeson and Amy Neal; two step great grandchildren, Kaylee and Megan Beeson; sisters-in-law, Ida Martin, Mary Wade (Wallace), Armin Ashby, and Carolyn Ashby; many nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2016 at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Roberson and Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 16, at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.

God showed His love to the Spainhour Family through friends who helped in so many ways. Thanks to all of you! The family would also like to thank the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care for all the wonderful care they provided for Thurman. May God Bless You All !
