Mr. Timothy Donald Ballard, 64 years of age, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 11, 2025 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC.
Tim was born March 8, 1961 in Lincolnton, NC to Shirley Woodard Ballard and the late Harry “Donald” Ballard. He attended Bandys High School and earned his BS degree in biology from UNC Charlotte. There, he met Kim Wall, and they married July 30, 1983. He later earned a master’s in chemistry at UNC Greensboro. Together, Tim and Kim had three sons, the “Ballard Boys” and moved to Farmington from Lewisville. He was a long-time member of Farmington Methodist Church and volunteered there teaching Sunday School and working on various committees within the church.
For many years, Tim worked at, then later owned and operated En-Cas Analytical Laboratories in Winston-Salem and was a member of the Carolina-Piedmont section of the American Chemical Society. He was also a dedicated educator and taught Chemistry at Wilkes Community College, Forsyth Technical Community College, Winston-Salem State University, and University of North Carolina at Greensboro throughout the years. He loved sharing his passion with younger generations and opening their minds to careers in chemistry.
He was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and papaw to his family, and a loyal friend to many others. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. “Those babies” as he liked to call them, were the love of his life.
He enjoyed helping others by using his skills in construction that he learned from his father. In his spare time, he completed a variety of home improvement projects with the help of his wife and sons.
Tim is proceeded in death by his father, Donald, mother-in-law, Edna Wall; and brother-in-law, Mike Wall. He is survived by his mother, Shirley; wife, Kim; father-in-law Jack; sons, Brian and wife Ashley, Matthew and husband Kenny, and Andrew and wife Sarah; grandchildren, Thomas, Johanna, R.J., and Emily; sister, Jane and husband Jerry; nieces, Emma and husband Keith, and Meghan and husband Brian, grand-nephew, Henry; and grand-nieces, Hailey and Maren.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at Farmington Methodist Church by Pastor Joey Yokeley. Burial will follow in Farmington Community Cemetery. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church’s fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the Remarkable Care Fund for Oncology to support current and future patients.
The family is grateful to the staff, nurses, and doctors of the Derrick L. Davis Cancer Center at Forsyth Medical Center for the outstanding care and treatment they provided to Tim.
