Tommy Hulin Smith 81, passed away at his home on October 9, 2016. He was born on January 9, 1936 in Forsyth County to Wiley Alexander and Lizzie Sofeley Smith. Tommy graduated from Griffith School in 1953, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco and volunteered in Forsyth Medical Center. He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Wilshire Golf Assoc., YSGA Assoc. and Arcadia VFW Post 10485. He is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Rachel Lawson Smith in 1978, two brothers and 3 sisters. Survived by his wife Peggy Sides Smith of the home since 1980, son Garry (Dean ) Smith of Winston Salem, daughter Tanya Smith Robbins and her husband Henry of Winston Salem, Stepsons Ronald and Steve Shell of Winston Salem, sisters; Thelma Kennedy, Nancy Kiser and Sylvia Snyder also 5 grandchildren and 9 Great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday October 12, 2016 at Hayworth- Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway followed by a service at 2:00 PM in the chapel with Pastor Michael Gates officiating with Burial in Bethlehem Church Cemetery.
