2:00 - 3:00 pm (Eastern time)
Tracy Lee Armstrong, a beloved mighty man of God, was called home by his loving heavenly Father on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 8:45 PM. He finally is at peace. He grew up in Jacksonville, NC, and graduated from high school at Jacksonville Senior High School. He was quite versatile in his employment- the longest one working for the city of Winston-Salem in the landfill. First outside helping to direct the trucks and then being in the scale house receiving the money before dumping the trash. He also worked on an oil rig as a night-cook in the Gulf of Mexico.
Tracy is preceded in death by his parents, Lohrke Lee and Carol Janice Martin Armstrong, his beloved dog, Daisy, as well as his in-laws.
Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Darlene Susan McKnight Armstrong, his children, who were those he and Darlene helped to raise in the daycare center in their home, including Rietl Giovanni Gengo, Austin Kirk Laws, and Emma Marie Swedeen Carrell; a brother, Matthew Lee Armstrong; as well as a nephew, Tyler Jacob Armstrong.
Tracy will forever be remembered as Papa Tracy, Uncle Tracy, and Papa Smurf. He loved missions and missionary work, and spent time in places like Barranquilla, Colombia, El Salvador, and Belize. After a long period of illness, he entered Summerstone Health and Rehab, where he spent 10 months.
Now he is in Glory, walking on the streets of gold, free as a bird, reunited with his beautiful baby maltese doggie, Daisy, and his in-laws.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Forsyth County Humane Society at 4881 Country Club Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27104, or to the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Child Project at PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
