Tyre Dallas "T.D." Brann

On Monday, November 7, 2016, Tyre Dallas ""T. D."" Brann left his earthly life to join those who traveled before. He was born on a pleasant sunny day, March 19, 1924, at the family home in the Enon community of Yadkin County, N. C. He was the fourth child born to Emma Craft Brann and Tyre Arthur Brann. His education began in a two-room building, Flint Hill School, and continued at East Bend School, graduating in 1942 as valedictorian. As a young boy, he learned to work hard each day on the farm with his family, developing strong character and work ethic. As a teen, he listened each Saturday night to radio station WSM in Nashville, Tenn., enjoying country and bluegrass music. By age fifteen, he had taught himself to play the guitar and later helped form a band which played in the Winston-Salem area in the 1950s.
On Nov. 26, 1943, he married Edith Lawson of Winston-Salem. The following summer, he was inducted into the U. S. Army, and proudly served in World War II as part of the 116th Infantry Regiment in active combat throughout Germany. He remained in service until March, 1946, having been chosen to serve as a member of a military police unit, keeping order during the occupation of Berlin. Upon his return from Europe, he became an employee of the Western Electric Co., where he remained until his retirement in 1981. For many years, he participated in employee-sponsored events and, with Edith, was active in the Western Electric Telephone Pioneers.
T. D. was always known for his intellect, loyal friendship, music, laughter and sense of humor, love for his church, his country, and tremendous love for his family. Throughout his life, he continued to listen to and play country music. In earlier years he had enjoyed boating, water skiing, stock car racing, bowling and VFW participation, of which he became a lifetime member. With his wife and daughter Sandy, he joined College Park Baptist Church in 1951, where he remained faithful until his health declined.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Gray and Wade, sister Edith Brann Reynolds, and many loving in-laws. Sadly, after sixty-one years of marriage, his wife Edith passed away in April, 2005.
He is survived by his daughter Sandy Jones and son-in-law Steve of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren: Kristin Berrier (Chris) of Lewisville, N. C. and Britt Jones (Angie) of Marietta, Ga.; three great granddaughters: Emma Eggers, Ryley Jones, and Harper Jones. In addition, he leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and other members of both his family and Edith's, as well as many caring friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 on Thursday, November 10th, at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home, ……. Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, N. C. A funeral service to honor his life will take place Friday, Nov. 11th at 11:00 at College Park Baptist church, 1701 Polo Rd., Winston-Salem, N. C. Full military rites will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park.
Special gratitude for prayers, concern, and visits is extended to his friends and family, as well as his pastor, Ramon Smith, and members of his church. The family is also grateful for his physicians: Dr. David Collins (Ret.), Dr. Peter Ragonesi, Dr. Landon Weeks, and Dr. Susan Auffinger. Lastly, wonderful care throughout the past few years was given by his friends and caregivers, Lee Huffin, Jane Boyles, and Sharon Epps, as well as the many caring friends and staff who assisted him at Trinity Elms Health and Rehab in Clemmons, N. C.
Flowers are welcome. Memorials may be made to Disabled Veterans National Foundation, Inc., P. O. Box 96262, Washington, D. C. 20090-6262 or to College Park Baptist Church at address above.
