Ulyus Eugene Hilton

Ulyus Eugene “Gene” Hilton the definition of a true southern gentleman, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday November 1, 2025. He passed at the age of 89 on “All Saint’s Day” which is very fitting considering anyone who knew him would refer to him as a saint.

Gene was born on Christmas Day in 1935 in Winston-Salem to the late Robert & Mary Lee Hilton Slawter. Gene was an only child who graduated from Gray High School in 1952. After high school, he went to work at R.J. Reynolds tobacco company where he retired at the age of 53, after 36 years of service. Gene was known for his kindness and welcoming spirit. He enjoyed spending time with his family every Sunday in Yadkin County where he would garden and sit on the front porch and fellowship. He loved to golf and fish and was a member of the softball team at his home church. He served in the United States Army Reserves and was honorably discharged. He was a devoted member of Salem Baptist Church for the entirety of his life. Gene was a wonderful father, doting grandfather, and loyal friend. While we will miss him dearly, we rejoice in knowing he is reunited with his late wife Nellie Hilton, they were married for 54 wonderful years.

Gene is survived by his son, Ron Hilton (Bonnie); daughter, Donna Tugman (Glenn); grandchildren, Holly Cadwallader (Michael), Aaron Hilton (Savannah), and Addy Hilton. He is also survived by several special nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Friday November 7th, at 11:00 am at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens officiated by Pastor Chris Thore. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at the cemetery.
