Velvin Mary Shutt

Miss Velvin Mary Shutt, 92, of Winston-Salem, passed away on July 7, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center. Velvin was born on January 3, 1924 in Forsyth County, NC to John Sylvester and Dora Catherine Burke Shutt. She graduated from RJ Reynolds High School in 1940. She was a member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church. Velvin Retired from Standard Savings and Loans where she was branch manager and vice president and later with BB&T Bank with a total of 43 and a half years of loyal service. After retiring, she worked as a book keeper for Susan Carson Interior Design with eight years of service. She was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters, Fred, Frankie, Theo, Millard, Allie, Odell, Lillian, Jesse, Leslie and Gaither. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Grace Shutt of Winston-Salem, Rosemary Shutt Mock and husband Richard of Hays, Shirley Shutt Pegram and husband Richard of Belews Creek, Faye Shutt Tilley of Mocksville, Kaye Shutt Hollar and husband Ray of Cooleemee, and many great nieces and nephews. A special thank you to all of her caregivers, especially Ruby Spann who has cared for her for the last 20 plus years. Also surviving, her special four legged friend, Buttons. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016 at New Philadelphia Moravian Church with Dr. Worth Green officiating. Interment will follow at the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
