KERNERSVILLE – Lou Vennie Vanhoy Speaks, 88, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Woltz Hospice Home. Vennie was born on March 27, 1935 in Forsyth County, the last surviving child of Arthur and Annie Fulp Vanhoy’s twelve children. She was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church and was a 1954 graduate of Kernersville High School. She was a people person and loved being with her family, neighbors, church family and friends. She met with her classmates every first Friday of the month as long as her health permitted.
In addition to her parents, Vennie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Speaks, Sr.; six brothers; five sisters; two grandsons, Jason and Jarrett Cook; and a great granddaughter, Abigail Owens
Surviving is her son, Rickey Lawson (Bonnie) of Belews Creek; her daughter, Diane Tuttle (Tony) of Walnut Cove; four grandchildren, Matt Lawson (Kristi), Mitch Lawson, Vicki Owens (Mike), and Lucas Tuttle; seven great grandchildren, Ryan, Casey, Carter, Madi and McKenzie Lawson, and Max and Ben Owens.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 19, 2024 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Greg Mullis officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Vennie’s home health providers, especially Allison and Chekesha for their loving care.
